The Diabetes Alliance Network (DAN) was established in 2018 by Help A Diabetic Child, a 501c3 non-profit whose mission supports funding insulin, medical supplies and services that benefit children with type 1 diabetes. DAN has now expanded to serve those with type 1, type 2, pre-diabetes and developed a clinic to community diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) program.
Establishing DAN was a grassroots effort of philanthropists, people affected by diabetes, physicians and other healthcare providers. DAN was designed to improve communication between agencies that directly, or indirectly serve those with diabetes to address barriers that people with diabetes may experience. Together, agencies partner with DAN to collectively bridge gaps in resources, care, and diabetes education.
Although formed as a Florida non-profit, the goal of DAN is to expand the model of DSMES and duplicate services, as a best practice for linking the clinic to the community nationwide.
